What to Expect at Your Maternity Session in eastbourne, east sussex.

My maternity sessions take place in a simple, cosy studio space in my home here in Eastbourne. The setup is very relaxed and minimal, which keeps the focus on you and your bump.

Some mums love the idea of bare bump or more natural photos, and others prefer to stay fully dressed — both are completely fine. I always work around what you feel comfortable with.

At the moment I don’t provide outfits, so clients bring along a few things they feel good in. Simple outfits, neutral colours and soft fabrics tend to photograph beautifully.

One thing I hear a lot before sessions is:"I’m really nervous… I hate having my photo taken."

And that’s completely normal.

Most of my maternity clients say this when they arrive! My job is to guide you through the session, showing you exactly how to pose and where to place your hands, so you don’t have to worry about what to do.

The sessions are very calm and relaxed, and I photograph in a way that helps even the most camera-shy mums feel comfortable.

By the end of the session most people say it was much easier than they expected.

What Should I Wear for My Maternity Photo Session?

One of the most common questions I get is “What should I wear?”

The good news is it doesn’t need to be complicated. I currently ask clients to bring their own outfits, and simple options often photograph the most beautifully.

Soft, neutral colours such as cream, beige, white, soft browns or muted tones work really well in my studio space and keep the focus on you and your bump.

Some mums like to wear long, flowy dresses, while others prefer jeans with a simple top, a fitted dress, or a cosy cardigan. There’s no right or wrong choice — the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident.

If you’re happy to show your bump, outfits that hug the shape of your belly photograph beautifully. Some mums also choose to bring a bra and cardigan or shirt for a more natural, relaxed look.

If your partner or children are joining the session, try to choose neutral colours that work nicely together rather than matching exactly. This helps keep the photos looking soft and timeless.

And remember — maternity sessions are very relaxed. I’ll guide you through the whole session so you don’t have to worry about what to do.

How Pricing Works

Maternity sessions are booked with a session fee, which secures your date and covers the time in the studio.

After your session, I carefully edit the best images and send you a private online gallery where you can view them at home.

At that stage, you simply choose how many images you would like to purchase. This means you only pay for the photos you truly love.

This approach gives families the flexibility to choose the collection that works best for them.

Bump to Baby Offer

Many families choose to capture both their pregnancy and their baby's first days.

If you book a maternity session and also reserve your newborn due date, you’ll receive £50 credit towards your newborn images.

This means you can document both stages of your journey and enjoy a little saving on your newborn gallery.

Newborn sessions are usually booked during pregnancy to make sure space is reserved for your baby's arrival.

Maternity Session FAQs

When is the best time to have maternity photos taken?

Most maternity sessions take place between 30–36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully visible but you are still comfortable moving and posing.

Do I need to know how to pose?

Not at all! Most mums tell me they feel nervous or awkward in front of the camera. I guide you through the whole session and show you exactly how to stand and where to place your hands.

What should I wear?

Simple outfits work best. Soft neutral colours and clothing that gently shows your bump photograph beautifully.

Can my partner or children be included?

Yes, absolutely. Many families love including partners and siblings so we can capture this moment together.

How long does the session last?

Most maternity sessions last around 30 mins to one hour, giving us plenty of time to create a variety of images without feeling rushed.

I feel nervous about having my photo taken — is that normal?

Completely normal! Many of my clients say this before their session. My job is to make you feel comfortable and relaxed so the photos feel natural.

Do I have to show my bump?

Not at all. Some mums love bare bump photos and others prefer to stay fully dressed. We work entirely around what makes you feel comfortable

What if I feel self-conscious about my body during pregnancy?

This is very common and something many mums mention before their session. My goal is to photograph you in a way that feels natural and flattering, focusing on your bump and the connection with your baby.

What if my older child doesn’t cooperate?

That’s completely normal! Children don’t need to sit perfectly still. Some of the most beautiful photos happen when siblings are simply interacting naturally. and if they don't want to be in the photos that too is absolutely fine!

What if I feel tired or uncomfortable on the day?

Pregnancy can be exhausting, so sessions are kept relaxed with plenty of time to move at a comfortable pace.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Just bring a few outfits you feel comfortable in. Some mums also like to bring a baby scan photo or tiny baby item to include in a few images.
