Newborn Photography in Eastbourne, East Sussex
Those first days with your newborn are magical, emotional and often a little overwhelming. Many parents tell me they would love newborn photos but feel unsure about what actually happens during a session.
At Moochies Newborn Photography in Eastbourne, my goal is to create a calm, relaxed experience where both baby and parents feel comfortable. Newborn sessions are completely baby-led, meaning we move at your baby’s pace with plenty of time for cuddles, feeding and settling.
Here’s what you can expect during your newborn photography session.
Arriving at the Studio
When you arrive, the studio will already be warm and prepared for your baby. Newborns are happiest and sleepiest in a cosy environment, so the temperature is kept comfortable for them throughout the session.
Everything needed for the session is ready before you arrive, including wraps, blankets and carefully chosen props. You don’t need to worry about bringing outfits for baby unless there’s something special you’d like included.
Parents can relax while I gently settle your baby ready for their photographs. I also have hot and cold drinks available, along with biscuits or cakes, so you can sit back and enjoy a little break while your baby is being photographed.
If siblings are joining the session, it can be helpful to bring along a few snacks and drinks for them, as newborn sessions are slow and relaxed to allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and settling baby.
A Calm, Baby-Led Session
Every newborn is different, which is why sessions are never rushed.
Some babies sleep beautifully throughout the session, while others need a little more time to settle. That’s completely normal.
If baby needs feeding, cuddles or a nappy change, we simply pause and continue when they’re comfortable again.
Newborn sessions usually last around 2–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for:
• Feeding breaks• Nappy changes• Gentle settling• Different poses and setups
The goal is always to keep your baby calm, comfortable and safe.
Gentle and Safe Posing
Your baby’s safety and comfort are always the most important part of a newborn session.
I only use gentle, natural poses that are safe for newborns, and babies are supported at all times. Many images you may see online are actually created using composite images, meaning hands are supporting the baby and the final image is edited together later for safety.
With over a decade of experience photographing newborns, I work slowly and carefully to ensure every baby is handled with patience and care.
Beautiful Simple Setups
During the session we will capture a variety of images including:
• Soft wrapped poses• Natural blanket poses• Tiny details like hands and feet• Beautiful close-up portraits
The style at Moochies is soft, timeless and natural so that your photos will never go out of style.
Parents and Family Photos
If you would like, we can also capture parent and sibling photos during the session. These images are often some of the most treasured, capturing the connection between you and your new baby.
Simple neutral clothing works best for these images and helps keep the focus on your baby.
After Your Session
After your session, I carefully select and edit the very best images from your gallery.
Once your photographs are ready, you’ll receive access to a private online gallery, allowing you to view your images from the comfort of your own home. This means you can take your time choosing your favourites and even share the gallery with family if you wish.
Each image is professionally edited with care to ensure beautiful soft skin tones and a timeless finish, creating photographs you’ll treasure for years to come.
When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?
The best time for newborn photos is when your baby is between 5 and 15 days old, while they are still very sleepy and naturally curled. During this stage, babies tend to settle easily into those soft, snuggly poses that many parents love.
Because of this small window, it’s recommended to reserve your due date during pregnancy. Once your baby arrives, we simply arrange the session within those early days.
However, if your baby is a little older, please don’t worry — it’s never too late to capture beautiful photographs. Older newborns may be more awake and alert, which often leads to gorgeous images with eye contact and sweet little expressions.
While the style of images may be slightly different from very sleepy newborn poses, they are just as special and meaningful, capturing your baby’s unique personality and those precious early weeks.
